Seth Dobbs (he/him): Hi, I’m Seth Dobbs, and welcome to season three of the Principle Driven Leadership Podcast, where I share principles of leadership, along with examples of how to apply them to help make you be the best leader you can be. These principles are based on my years of experience as an executive leader in building teams and organizations, and in coaching others to become leaders themselves.
And I believe that not only can anyone develop leadership skills, but that everyone can and should develop leadership skills. I think they’re essential in helping you achieve your best in whatever way you might be, trying to make an impact. And I think of leadership as a journey. And in fact, getting this season of this podcast out has been quite a journey in itself for me, and I’ll talk more about that in the final episode of this season.
For now, the steps we’re going to take throughout this season will be to further elaborate the three core principles of Principle Driven Leadership through the use of enabling principles. Key to this is the definition of leadership as influencing others to effectively create durable results. This definition is core to Principle Driven Leadership and is supported by the three core principles of leadership.
Number one, Leaders Provide Vision. Number two, Leaders Resolve Problems, and number three, Leaders Create More Leaders. In season three, I’m going to spend five episodes exploring each one of those core principles. This will include elaborating more on the principle itself, as well as providing enabling principles to support the core principle.
These enabling principles help capture more granular aspects of the core to make it easier for you to learn and grow. As always, there is no prerequisite to listening to an episode. Each one is a self-contained episode of 10 to 15 minutes, designed to deliver an aha moment or two along with insights that can be applied right away. This also makes it easy to go back to specific topics that you need a refresh on or that you just want to work through more.
Now, having said that, as I’ve mentioned, there is a structure to the season. The first five episodes cover the first core principle, which is that Leaders Provide Vision. I always start with vision because it’s impossible to lead without knowing where you’re headed. So in particular, I’ll discuss how to think about productivity, the need and benefit of motivating teams, and the importance of communication.
The middle five episodes cover the second core principle, which is that Leaders Resolve Problems. Throughout these episodes, I’ll discuss the essential need to get better at shaping problems, the power of small wins and the importance of accountability. And the last five episodes cover the third core principle, which is that Leaders Create More Leaders. In service of this notion,
I’ll talk about your role as a leader in establishing culture. How to create space for others to shine and why leading through principles is so effective. And the very last episode of the season will be more of a reflection of my own personal journeys and how that mirrors leadership development. If you find these concepts valuable, please subscribe, rate, leave a review, or share with a friend. Your feedback helps us improve our podcast and reach more aspiring leaders.
I’m looking forward to exploring these concepts with you this season, and we’ll jump into the details in episode one, where we’ll see that a poor vision creates confusion and learn how a clearer vision can drive forward motion.
